Radiochromic Film Dosimeters

GEX manufactures pre-packaged radiochromic film dosimeters from
the B3 film developed at Risø National Laboratory in Roskilde,
Denmark. William McLaughlin, NIST Senior Scientist and Arne Miller,
Director of the High Dose Reference Laboratory at Risø collaborated
on the development and investigations performed with what is now
referred to as B3 radiochromic film.
The radiochromic dye used to make B3 film is based on pararosaniline
cyanide, turning from clear to deepening shades of purple with increased
exposure to ionizing radiation sources. Change in the optical absorbance
of the B3 film is measured in a standard spectrophotometer at a
single wavelength of 554 nm over the entire range of use.

Our dosimeter products are manufactured in large industrial process-control
batches, assuring that dosimeter response will remain highly uniform
and predictable from batch to batch and within each batch. Every
aspect of the dosimeter manufacturing process is strictly controlled:
synthesis of the radiochromic dye; industrial film casting; cleanroon
dosimeter packaging. Every roll of the film batch is sampled and
tested for thickness uniformity and response function so you can
know what to expect from your batch of dosimeters before and after
calibration.
