New Book on Radiation Dosimetry

GEX is pleased to announce the availability of Kishor Mehta's new book Radiation Processing Dosimetry - A Practical Manual. Published by GEX, Dr. Mehta's book covers all aspects of industrial radiation dosimetry and is an essential reference manual for all those who practise dosimetry, as well as anyone involved in the quality and management aspects of industrial radiation dose measurements. Available immediately, the book is priced at $40 per copy with a $10 discount provided for ASTM E10.01 members. Contact a GEX sales representative at 303-400-9640 to place your order, or email mpageau@gexcorp.com.

GEX 2007 Dosimetry Workshop Dates

Dates of the 2007 GEX 4-Day Hands-On Workshops:

  • May 21-24 (Monday - Thursday)
  • September 17-20 (Monday - Thursday)

The Workshop will be updated to reflect the latest industry guidance practices, including the newly revised ISO 11137 Radiation Sterilization standard and other newly published or revised ISO/ASTM dosimetry standards. Participants will receive a copy of Kishor Mehta's book, a Workshop completion certificate and a Workshop workbook. The workbook includes a copy of the training materials and a useful gap analysis checklist to help organize your next dosimetry program audit. Obtain registration information and an overview of the course from the GEX website at www.gexcorp.com, or contact a GEX sales representative at 303-400-9640 to reserve space in an upcoming Workshop and gain real hand-on experience and exchange ideas with other participants.

Blind Gamma and Electron Beam Intercomparison Study
Time is running out! The deadline is October 27 to sign-up for the EU Panel on Gamma and Electron Irradiation blind dose intercomparison study. The comparison will be run jointly by NPL, UK, and Risø National Laboratory, Denmark and will follow the same format as the previous comparison held in 2002. Costs are £1,000 for non-EU Panel members and £750 for member for the 12 point (1-60 kGy) calibration packages. To learn more and sign up in time, contact chemdos@npl.co.uk for details.

Low Energy Electron Beam Calibration
Progress continues toward the introduction of new reference transfer standard class alanine film dosimeters for use with in-situ calibration of low energy electron beam (<750 keV) irradiators. Contact Gary Pageau at GEX for details or to obtain technical information regarding in-situ low energy calibration practices using Monte Carlo correction factors or how to obtain copies of recent publications by Arne Miller and Jakob Helt-Hansen of Risø National Laboratory and Peter Sharpe of NPL. You may also wish to join the ASTM Low Energy Task Group and/or attend the upcoming January 2007 Task Group meeting.

Harry Farrar IV Update
As most of you already aware our good friend Harry Farrar, who formed the ASTM Working Group E-10.01 responsible for the development of international standards for Dosimetry, suffered post operative complications that involved anoxia and resulted in stroke-like damage in May of this year. Harry's wife Sharon reported last month that Harry continues the slow intensive rehab process and is making progress from symptoms of the stroke damage he suffered. Please contact gpageau@gexcorp.com to obtain further information on Harry's progress. In the meantime, we urge everyone to extend prayers and positive thoughts to Harry, Sharon and their entire family for Harry's full and successful recovery.
