Pierre Vidal (1914-2003)
With sadness we report the death of Pierre Vidal, a pioneer in the field of industrial radiation who built and operated the world's first contract gamma irradiator in France, 1960. Pierre also formed and led the Association of International Industrial Irradiation (AIII) until his retirement a few years ago and was a long time member of ASTM Subcommittee E10.01. We all thank him for his leadership and contributions to the industry. He will be remembered and dearly missed.

Happy Birthday!
On a positive note, another industry pioneer Bill McLaughlin will be celebrating his 75th birthday at NIST in Gaithersburg, MD on April 24th and 25th. In celebration of Bill's commitment to our industry, NIST will host a workshop on Advances in Industrial Radiation Dosimetry. As a senior scientist emeritus at NIST, Bill helped to develop many of the dosimeters that are in use today. A 75th birthday banquet will honor him on the evening of the April 24th. Registration for the workshop is $70.00, for more information and to register online visit www.nist.gov/conferences.

Validation and Process Control for Electron Beam Sterilization
This 5-day course offered twice per year is held at Risø National Laboratory in Roskilde, Denmark just outside of Copenhagen under the direction of Dr. Arne Miller. The course offers instruction on current industry practices for Facility and Product Qualification and Process Control. Guest lecturers discuss Biocompatibility and other microbiological issues as well as Materials Compatibility. For detailed information visit www.risoe.dk/nuk/HDRL-cou.htm

GEX would also like to announce that two spaces have opened up for our Dosimetry Workshop on May 12th - 15th with two participants switching to the October 6th -9th workshop. Click here for more information on our Dosimetry Workshops.

NCRRT Radiation Indicators
We have seen some sparked interest in our new radiation indicators and are planning increased production this year with some new equipment. For more information on this indicator that undergoes a color change at doses below 3kGy - Click here.
