ASTM 5th International Dosimetry Workshop
September 26 – October 1, 2004

We would like to send another reminder about the ASTM 5th International Workshop on Dosimetry for Radiation Processing. This workshop is intended for all who are involved in dosimetry worldwide and is the premier event focusing on dosimetry techniques, ideas, and innovations.

The hands-on and discussion sessions will involve some of the most recognized names in dosimetry and the event is held only once every 4-5 years. We expect a large turnout and space is limited to the first 160 registrants – so don’t get left out!

Located 45 minutes north of the city of Montreal, the Workshop will take place at the Hôtel Le Chantecler in Sainte-Adèle, Québec, Canada Sept. 26 – Oct. 1. Participants will enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the lodge and the scenic Laurentian Mountain countryside during the colorful fall season. For more information please click here, or contact Gary Pageau at GEX at

GEX will not offer our Hands-On Dosimetry Workshop this fall so there is no excuse for not being at the ASTM Workshop! Hope to see you there!

GEX Continues its Commitment to ASTM Subcommittee E10.01
At the June 2004 ASTM meeting in Boston, GEX presented Subcommittee Chairman Harry Farrar IV and Staff Manager Jeff Adkins with a contribution check to the ASTM Management Committee Fund. We are proud to continue our support of this very important organization. GEX encourages all companies benefiting from the work of this committee to contribute in any way to its ongoing success and operation.

Frank Fraser, October 26, 1935 – May 17th, 2004
It is with great sadness that we report the loss of yet another industry pioneer, Frank Fraser. Frank was a legendary leader at MDS Nordion (formerly AECL) whose many contributions helped shape the gamma irradiation segment of our industry. He passed away on May 17th after a battle with cancer. Frank had an illustrious career as an athlete, father, community supporter and industry advocate. Among his many accomplishments, Frank helped to champion the use of gamma irradiation to improve food safety. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and worked with him.

NIST CIRMS Meeting
The next CIRMS meeting will be held in Gaithersburg, Maryland, October 25-27, 2004. For more information visit www.cirms.org

GEX Website Announcement: Industry Related Links Updated
With many ongoing changes in the industry, we have updated our "Industry Links" web page. Changes were made to reflect the IBA/Sterigenics split, new links were added in the food irradiation section, and the listing of new links to the Systems & Suppliers section. One new listing includes Broad Beam Equipment, selling new low energy equipment using the RPC technology and providing maintenance service for existing RPC systems. As our industry changes quickly, please check back to the Industry Links page frequently to remain up-to-date with all the latest information.
